| Our goal is to have a "100% Trained" adult leader team. Here are some resources that will help you get the training you need.
|
| Basic Training: |
If
you are registered as an ASM (assistant scoutmaster) you are considered
fully trained only after completing the following courses: New Leader
Essentials, Leader Specific training-Indoor, and Leader Specific
training-outdoor. We also strongly urge every adult to complete Youth
Safety training, which can be done
on-line. For more information and a calendar of upcoming training opportunities, consult the Heart of Virginia Council web site. |

Youth Protection Training
is required for all leaders and "Youth Protection Awareness" for youth
is suggested at least once a year. Identify and recognize abuse in all
its forms and be familiar with how to report these problems to the
proper authorities. Since 1988, the Boy Scouts of America has
provided adult and youth training to combat this societal problem. For
adults, we have Youth Protection Guidelines for Parents and Leaders.
For youth, the BSA uses a variety of tools, including videotapes, to
communicate with young people about protecting themselves against all
forms of abuse. The B S A's award-winning videos of child abuse
prevention help youth recognize dangerous situations and avoid becoming
victims.
Safe Swim Defense is training for any swimming activity and must also be renewed periodically.
Safety Afloat is training for events which require the use of any water craft. Must be renewed periodically.
